Right to Health Breaking Down bearriers to eye health in South Asia ( Duration July 2018 to June 2021 )
Project Description :
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 1.53% of the population ( age 30 years and above ) 0f Bangladesh is blind , of which 80%is due to cataract alone. This means Bangladesh has approx 850000 cataract blind persons. There for there are about 1.3 million eyes ( Assuminig 50% of the cataract blind have cataract in both eyes )
WHO statistics further disclose that annual incidence of blindness is the 20% of the prevention of blindness . This means that the cataract blindness is growing at the rate of 162000 cases every year .
The mission of the Royal Commonwealth society for the blind (RCSB) - Sightsavers is to combat blindness in developing countries , primary in the commonwealth , by working with partners organization in poor and least served communities to support ongoning activities that prevent and cure blindness , restore sight and provide service to blind people .
To fulfill the mission , Royal common wealth Society for the Blind is provinding funding assistance and technical support to the local NGOs and the Government of bangladesh to
undertae verious eye care services , rehabilitation of the blind and education of the blind people of the Bangladesh .
In 1999 WHO has lunched a global initiative titeled VISION -2020 and ask all countries to lunch the same . Bangladesh has retified the contents of VISION -2020 in 2000 and developed additional eye care plan with the support of Royal Common wealth Socity for the blind - Sight Savers International .
Royal Commonwealth Society for the blind , UK has been running its Bangladesh Branch Office to develop new initiatives and monitor all existing project in Bangladesh being runing by the project partners and Government of Bangladesh .
